A year ago, the Leitch report on skills recommended setting up a new careers service for adults. The service, to be “universal”, was viewed as a key means of encouraging individuals at all skill levels to raise their aspirations and invest in their skills development. The government has accepted the recommendation; the policy framework for the new service is being developed.
