Business Drivers

Our objective is simple; to serve customers well and thereby provide shareholders with good, sustainable financial returns. We aim to ensure all colleagues have opportunities to develop their abilities and are rewarded for their contribution to the success of the business. Our policy is to work with all of our suppliers fairly, recognising the mutual benefit of satisfying customers’ needs. We also aim to fulfill our responsibilities to the communities and environments in which we operate.

At Sainsbury’s we believe that skills forms an intrinsic part to the training and development we offer every one of our colleagues. We use our skills based programmes and qualifications, to enable colleagues to get better every day, and ultimately serve our customers even better. Our programmes deliver real craft skilled and knowledgeable colleagues, whilst also equipping them with the transferable skills they need to ensure a successful career within our business.

Implementation

We map and accredit our training offer, ‘Steps to Success’ to the national standards to ensure our colleagues are developing to a high standard. Our programmes at Sainsbury’s are something special, and enable our colleagues to gain additional skills and to start to operate at an even greater level to the benefit of our customers and business.

We currently offer bespoke Apprenticeships in Bakery, Meat and Fish, but are also working to implement Level 2 and Literacy and Numeracy programmes across our business.
